WELCOME TO THE 1920s

The Roaring Twenties made its debut amidst a strong post-war economic boom and the adoption of Prohibition in the United States. Cultural icons of the era included flappers, gangsters and moonshiners. KDKA in Pittsburgh, the first commercial radio station in the US, began its long broadcast tradition on 2 Nov 1920 with its transmission of election results.

Our love affair with the cinema also intensified during this time. Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin were among our favorite actors.

However, storm clouds gathered over the world toward the latter years of the decade. The infamous stock market crash in October 1929 would lead to the Great Depression and the defeat of Herbert Hoover in his bid for re-election in 1932.
